Amazon just released their book sales figures, truly amazing. They were up 41% and the dollar amount was in the billions.
Also given were the sales figures for the latest Harry Potter--reported as 2.5 million copies.
In addition, there was an announcement about Amazon's blog.

I'm serious. I don't understand the terminology. "Free cash flow?" Never heard of such a thing.
Net income? After what, cost of goods? After cost of goods and operating expenses?
Weasel words.
I suspect you can't use the word profit without actually -- you know -- turning a 'profit.'
Hi Duncan--good to hear from you. I agree with your thoughts about the use of economic words. Have you noticed that the traders are essentially repeating the dot com bubble of the 90's? FaceBook and the others are way over valued, particularly given they have not turned a "profit."
Because of your blog, I actually read the Amazon and Barnes and Nobles statements, and I can't make sense of them.
Yeah, we know they sold alot of Harry Potter, but they sold them for 16.00, or 17.00 or 18.00 dollars. Were there any profits in that?
As I remeber, you posted some thoughts about the publishing industry consolidating so that now there are only about 1/2 dozen mega-companies. Could it be that their cash flow is so enormous that it appears that they are making a profit--given some fancy bookkeeping?
Also, B&N said early on in the pre-publication of the Harry Potter thing that they would try to break even. Selling at cost or below only hurts the entire industry, at least in the long run. Of course, it creates major problems for the independent book seller in the short term.
yeah, so why do they do it? The ever illusive market share?

I took your intro to Photoshop class this fall, and I've just finished making a custom header for my Blogger blog in Photoshop. I'm having a heck of a time uploading it, and I thought you might be able to help (or at least point me in the direction of help).

Hi Cory: Thanks for visiting the blog. Regarding the custom header, we do work with the idea in the business blogging class. An important point about a custom header is to have it be the same size as the area of the header in which you want to put the Photoshop-created image. Another consideration is to have your image in the proper file format.
